The initial generation of Lexus RX was issued from 1998 to 2003. Lexus RX was equipped with both front-wheel as well as all-wheel drive. Manufacturers of the car used the philosophy of design of L-Finesse that means the use of innovative solutions, a harmonious combination of advanced technologies and sophistication of old Japanese aesthetics.
The idea to create the compact crossover for a premium segment appeared at Toyota company at the beginning of the 1990s. In 1995, the chief designer Makoto Oshima developed the first sketches. In February 1997, the model concept under the name of SLV (Sport Luxury Vehicle) was presented at the Motor Show in Chicago. This car was constructed on a platform of Lexus ES 300 sedan. In 1998, mass production of the model, as a result, received the name of Lexus RX. At first, the auto was on sale only at the American market and in 2000, the company began to export to Europe.
Rare car with the release of the new generation undergoes serious changes. In the second generation, Lexus RX has its own story. Although externally, Lexus RX kept the majority of lines of the successful predecessor, technical changes are huge. New Lexus RX grew so that even it replaced a class, having passed from compact into midsize crossovers. Lexus RX crossover was issued both with front and all-wheel drive systems. In some complete sets, there was a suspension with pneumatic elements which allowed to regulate a ground clearance. Ground clearance can be established in one of three provisions, but at a high speed, the suspension automatically decreases.
The next generation of the midsize Lexus RX crossover is issued since 2009 with a front as well as all-wheel drive. The car is equipped with gasoline as well as hybrid engines. The appearance of Lexus RX corresponds to the philosophy of design of L-Finesse which consists in the simplicity and clarity of the lines. Unlike the previous generations, Lexus RX received more aggressive shape thanks to narrow headlights and increased wheel arches.
