Pontiac Gto — is manufactured by Pontiac company, General Motors Corporation in the USA, during the period from 1964 to 1974 and from 2004 to 2006 in Australia. Pontiac Gto is considered innovative as well as classical real muscle car of the 1960s-70s.
The first Pontiac Gto was introduced in 1964 with only one option "LeMans" which was available in bodies of a coupe, sedan, and cabriolet. The package at the cost of $296 included V8 389-block (6.4-liter) 325 hp (242 kW) at 4800 rpm with a quad carburetor and dual exhaust, chrome valve cover, and air filter. Also, quiet seven-petal cooling fan and 3-speed manual gearbox of Herst, rigid sports springs, wider rubber, and of course, Pontiac Gto badge on the radiator enclosure. It was possible to receive 4-speed transmission and more powerful Tri-Power engine rated at 348 hp (260 kW) for an additional fee. In a basic equipment set, the cost of Pontiac Gto did not exceed a threshold of $4500 whose weight was 1600 kg.
In 1966, Pontiac Gto receives more rounded forms and rear lights began to have a fine lattice surface. Total length increased slightly by 206.4 inches (524 cm), width by 74.4 inches (189 cm), and wheelbase of 115 inches (292 cm). Gross weight remained almost the same. Pontiac Gto becomes already approved model, it is already decorated with grilles of newly made for coupes, sedans, and cabriolets. The company began to equip new seats of Strato which were thinner and higher with side support and adjustable headrests. The ignition switch is moved from left to right from the steering wheel. Later, the sports package - Ram Air released, having marked Pontiac Gto XS which according to documentation had a power of 360 hp (270 kW) though these figures were strongly underestimated. 96946 cars were sold in a year.
