Opel Astra

Opel Astra is a small-size German car of golf class whose history began on August 12, 1991, at the plant in Bochum and today, the company still updates and presents the model for the users. Astra (in translation from Latin - a star) is a continuation of the line of models of Kadett which was begun in 1962. Opel Astra is also issued under British Vauxhall brand and available in the market as upgraded Opel car with the right wheel.

In 1991, Opel company presented new Astra F model at the famous Auto Show in Frankfurt. Opel Astra the initial generation offered a wide scale of versions consisting of 3 and 5-door hatchbacks, 4-door sedan, station wagon - Caravan and cargo (commercial) as well as a van. Later, two sports versions were debuted, as well: GT and GSI. All cars began to equip with steering booster and saloon filter. There were available such options as air conditioner, passenger airbag, and leather interior. Two years later, a scale of Opel Astra was expanded at the expense of new four-seater cabriolet and station wagon - Caravan which was powered by 16-valve X20XE engine. 

In 1997, Opel Astra the second generation was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The mass production begun in Spring 1998 on the body types of 3 and 5 door hatchback, station wagon and coupe-cabriolet with gasoline engines volume of 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.2 liters together with 1.7 and 2.0 liters diesel engines. As gearbox offered 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions.

In the middle of September 2003, modernized Opel Astra was presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show which combined accentuated body lines and stylish design. At the moment, Opel Astra is available in the automobile market in bodies of 3 and 5-door hatchback, sedan, station wagon and cabriolet with gasoline engines volume of 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 liters (2.0T and 2.0 OPC) power of 90, 115, 140, 200 and 240 h.p. respectively. There is also 1.9 liters diesel engines (1.9 D and 1,9 TD) capacity of 120 and 150 h.p.

An advantage of Opel Astra can be felt in adaptive chassis that allows ensuring the state a balance between smoothness and safety while driving. The system of electronic control includes a system of dynamic stabilization, ABS and Continuously Controlled Damping which was applied earlier on sports versions only. All introduced technical innovations promote optimal management of suspension settings.
