Honda Accord

Honda Accord initially appeared as a business class for a young generation. It is full-wheel drive as well as specifications are very close to a sports car. Now,  the ninth generations of Honda Accord are on sale around the world.  Initially, the premier was held in 1976 and looked like 3-seater  hatchback. However, a year later, some changes have been made which led the car to turn from hatchback to sedan. The update was not only in appearance. In particular, in 1978, the engine capacity was increased to from 1,6 liters to 1,8 liters. Starting 1979, 3-speed automatic gearbox was installed at the request of the consumer. By the way, Honda Accord  Coupe, which was started in 1988 was produced only at the American plant in Ohio. Front-wheel drive Honda Accord 1,6 was a bit more expensive than rivals such as Toyota and Nissan. However, for this amount of money, the buyer has received a well-equipped car. Since 1983, the model was produced in the state of Ohio, US - the initial Japanese model based on American assembly! After upgrading, the model received 1,8-liter motor with fuel injection, cruise control, ABS, optional and automatic gearbox, a system to maintain better ground clearance were optional. The car also awarded the title Japanese car in Europe.

In 1983, the subsequent generation of Japanese was introduced with ABS,  12-valve engines and automatic transmission with torque converter lock- efficient. 1,8-liter motor had a system of the distributed injection PGM-FI  with electronic controls.  The design of the next update of Honda Accord was totally updated in 1985. The new components included an impressive wedge-shaped hood, hidden headlights and raised trunk. Fully independent suspension similar to sports car was built on a double wishbone. Disc brakes on all wheels and strong engines volume of 1.8 and  2.0-liters DOHC (maximum capacity - 160 HP) were appeared.  The third upgrade of the model became the best car among Japanese in  1985. Since 1986, Honda Accord began to be produced in Canada. 

In 1989, Honda Accord the fourth was premiered whose appearance was differentiated with a more strict design. Honda Accord was the best sellers in America and also exported to  Europe. The most expensive version of Honda Accord was all-wheel drive complete sets (4WS version). Another innovation was the deployment of an airbag dependent on the severity of the collision. In 1991, DOHC  engine volume of 2.2 liters was added into the list of options. In this year,  Honda Accord was distributed to Taiwan and the UK. Additionally, Deluxe modification on a long chassis with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive under the name of Honda Inspire/Saber was first introduced in  September 1989. In January 1992, Japanese company began exporting  Honda Inspire/Saber in the United States, with a new engine volume of 2,5  liters, whose body was increased in width. The model produced for the US  was sold under the brand name of Acura TL.

The fifth upgrade of Honda Accord was announced in 1993, which won the title "Best Japanese car". The list of engines was completed with  2.2 liters DOHC VTEC. Plus to the sedan, there was available 5- door Aerodeck station wagon and 2-door coupe. The current model was restyled in 1996. New engines were specially designed for the US: gasoline V6 motor volume of 2.7 liters rated at 173 HP and diesel  2.0 liters TDI power of 105 HP. A top engine capacity of 2.3 liters could accelerate the car to 100 km/h in 8,8 seconds. Maximum speed was 216  km/h. The modification intended for specifically Japanese market had names of Ascot and Innova.

In 1998, the following generation became available. A new model year was developed by Japanese experts in cooperation with research centers in England as well as Germany. This Honda Accord became the most global model of the company, which was produced in Japan, England, Malaysia and sold in  140 countries. The car had an electric power steering with variable transmission ratio and multi-link suspension. More expensive options got limited slip front differential and stability control system. Thanks to the laser welding, the body became more robust and rigid. The cabin of the new Honda Accord sedan was spacious and quiet and was equipped with the fastest warm-up system. The model had two airbags, door strengthening beams, three-point seatbelts on the rear seats, ABS brake system, ventilated brake discs, automatic as well as manual transmissions. Six months after the announcement of the sedan, the next upgrade of Honda Accord was appeared at the market as a hatchback of class D.

According to technical details, the sedan and hatchback were virtually identical and produced at the factory in Swindon, England. Like the sedan,  the hatchback was equipped with four-cylinder engines. In addition to  Honda Accord sedans, wagon and coupe type of the modifications produced at the plant in Ohio were sold in Europe. Along with two-liters engine of Accord Coupe EX V6, three-liter V6 engine rated at 200 HP was also installed.
