Honda Shadow
All Years and ModificationsThe history of Japanese family of Honda Shadow cruisers goes back to 1983. It was a kind of response of Japanese to the American choppers and the first modifications of Honda Shadow - VT750C Shadow and VT500C Shadow were already initially focused on the American consumer: classical, in the understanding of Americans, two-cylinder V-engine, a high wheel and low chopper landing. Honda Shadow was created just like Harley Davidson, therefore, the motorcycle turned out big, noisy and rigid, but along with comfortable, unpretentious and thoughtful. Thanks to such set of qualities of Honda Shadow, for many years, it was one of the most popular Japanese choppers on American as well as European markets.
Having seen Japanese chopper threat to sales of the American legendary Harley-Davidson, the American government entered big duties on import of motorcycles with a cubic capacity bigger than 700 cm3. In reply, Japanese adjusted assembly of Honda Shadow cruisers at the plant in America. Therefore, now Honda Shadow with the speedometer marked in miles could be met in the Far East. Since 1983, Honda nearly every year produced new models of Honda Shadow family or at least a modification of the existing model.
Honda VT1100C2 Shadow Sabre was debuted in the USA in 2000. This model unites lines of three previous Shadow models: Aero (retro cruiser), ACE (American Classic Edition) and Spirit (standard cruiser). Actually, Honda Shadow Sabre in 2000 was also replaced with Shadow ACE. A distinctive feature of Honda Shadow Sabre became an aluminum alloy. In some modifications, the chain drive is used, but in 2004, the Cardan shaft comes back.
