All Years and ModificationsThe first Mitsubishi Lancer appeared in 1973 and was urged to fill a gap in a model range of the company - between the compact Minica hatchback and the midsize Galant sedan. In the technical sense, Lancer became the only expansion of the extensive Colt family and at first, even it was called Mitsubishi Colt Lancer. It was the rear wheel drive car and was issued in 12 versions with four-cylinder engines of Saturn family with a capacity of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 liters. At choice three body types - two or four-door sedan and also five-door station wagon were offered. Clasp brakes of all wheels and a safety steering tube were distinctive features of the first Mitsubishi Lancer. On top of the scale, there were Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR whose engine was equipped with two carburetors that developed 98 h.p.
Completely new Mitsubishi Lancer the third generation was debuted in 1979: a rear wheel drive and only four-door body sedan were created with the assistance of the Italian designer Aldo Sessano. The interior became more spacious, and the axle rear suspension was succeeded by a four-lever independent. Only two engines – 1.4 and 1.6 liters were initially offered. On both, the company Silent Shaft technology with two balancer shafts was applied to the reduction of vibrations. In 1980, Mitsubishi Lancer was released with the motor volume of 1.8 l which was available both in atmospheric option as well as turbo-supercharging. For some markets, Lancer 2000 Turbo with 170 h.p. two-liter engine was offered. In 1981, the "budgetary" version with the motor volume of 1.2 liters appeared.
Mitsubishi Lancer IX belongs to the family of cars of S-class, both the sedan and wagon were designed and manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors at the Mizushima plant in Japan. CS2A-CS5W platform formed for the creation of the model base. The first introduction of the ninth generation of Mitsubishi Lancer took place in Japan in Spring, 2000. For the Japanese market, the right-hand drive model found the own name "Cedia" (from the words Century Diamond - "diamond of the century"). Two years later in 2002, the geography of sales of Cedia was expanded, and besides Japan, a car has appeared also in Australia and the USA. The official debut of Lancer IX aimed at the markets of Europe at the Auto Show in Moscow in the fall of 2003 and in the same year, the sales of a novelty began in Europe. The ninth generation of Lancer is developed under the direction of the chief designer of Mitsubishi company - Olivier Boulay.
