Land Rover Discovery – midsize SUV with front-wheel drive configuration as well as all-wheel drive. The official premiere of Land Rover Discovery was held in 1989 after designing for several years. Domestic drivers got acquainted with this off-road car one year later. The British company wanted to design the SUV on the basis of Range Rover so that it did not lose its comfortableness, but at the same time became cheaper. The body did not remain as three-door for a long time: after all, the car became a family car. Therefore, in 1990, 5-door version of Land Rover Discovery was introduced. Last year for Land Rover Discovery I was 1998. Then, production of the first generation was suspended, and its place was taken by Land Rover Discovery II.
The third generation was manufactured at the plant of the company in Great Britain from 2004 to 2009. In the United States of America, the car was on sale under the name of Land Rover LR3. During the creation of the third generation of Land Rover Discovery, it was planned that the SUV will occupy a niche between utilitarian Land Rover Defender and Range Rover, but at the same time on the level of equipment and comfort would be brought closer to the last. The car is constructed on the basis of Range Rover, and has the strong frame integrated into a power body shell – this technology received the name Body Frame – thanks to that, it was succeeded to increase body stiffness by torsion and substantially improve manageability. The car was made up until 2009 when it was replaced by Land Rover Discovery IV.
At the Auto Show in Canada and the United States, a modification with four-liter gasoline engine rated at 213 h.p. debuted. More powerful version with a power of 300 h.p. volume of 4.4 liters became available in Europe.
