Bmw 3 Series

The first BMW of the third series was introduced in 1975. Initially it was issued with two type of bodies - double-door sedan and convertible which was designed by the firm Baur. The car was equipped with engines of volume from 1.6 to 2.3 liters (75-143 HP), and the most powerful version of BMW 320 and BMW 323 can be easily recognized by dual headlamps. In total, till 1983 more than 1,3 million copies of 3 series were made.

The fifth generation of BMW 3 series debuted in 2005 with a body of sedan which received the E90 index. The car became slightly larger than the previous model thanks to what that the rear passengers had more scope. The car received a rear multilever suspension, The car received a rear multi-link suspension, and an option proposed active steering control.

The third series for the entire period of production was issued, and still is issued in various types of a body:

Sedan is the most popular type of body was produced in every generation of BMW 3 series, only with the exception of the first generation E21; 

Sedan with extended wheelbase — exclusive sedan version with extended base. This version was specially designed for the Chinese market and is available starting from the 6th generation;

Station wagon — the history of a body touring began with the second generation — E30, and, outside the company when the engineer of BMW — Max Rasberg on the basis of the sedan created for himself and for his family more functional version of the sedan. This body type, since E30 is issued in each new generation of 3 series;

Coupe — this type of a body is the second most popular in history of the model. Was issued in all generations, except for the F3x as the replacement of the E92 Coupe, the company has released a new 4 series, where the coupe was assigned an index — F32;

Convertible - a compact two-door coupe version with a folding roof. First, a full convertible was released starting from the second generation, and just as a coupe, has been replaced by 4 series - F33. Convertibles of E21 were only available through dealers, because it was made not in the company itself, but developed by a bodywork studio;

Baur-cabriolet - this body type is not officially produced, and was only available through a dealer. Cabriolets of Baur were made throughout three generations of BMW 3 series — E21, E30 and E36;

Hatchback - the three-door version of the 3 Series. Officially was manufactured only in the E36 and E46, which was given the prefix - «Compact». The compact version of E21 — exists under the name "Touring", but officially hasn't been released. In E30 was issued through the dealer and that, it is more similar to the 3-door station wagon;

Liftback - a new type of body began its history with the sixth generation BMW F3x. This car was given the name «Gran Turismo» and internal designation - F34; 

BMW 3 Series - the most popular series with the entire range of the company. Total annual sales of the BMW brand (except for motorcycles) account for about 30% only in the 3 Series. The third series has won numerous awards throughout its history.
